Dear Friends,

Please, accept my apologies for inability to conduct our Tuesday class due to health issues. I know you were waiting for it and came prepared, as always. I'm also confident that you will be able to start working on  new topics "Appearance" and "Sounds" on your own. Please, find your home assignment below.

To prepare for the next week's class, you are supposed to master the vocabulary from Units 7 and 10 in Oxford Word Skills and Unit 33 "Describing People: Appearance" from English Vocabulary in Use Upper Intermediate and Advanced.

In your blogs, publish two posts using the vocabulary from the topics "Appearance" and "Sounds":
1) Compare your appearance to those of the members' of your family (your mother's, father's, etc). Who do you think you take after? (150-170 words)
2) Imagine you are spending a night in a summer forest. What sounds do you hear in the evening, during the night, at dawn? (150-170 words). Write a detailed description.

Should you come up with any questions regarding the home task, please contact me via e-mail or through Comments.

Thank you for understanding.

Kind regards,

Tetiana Kushchyk

Dear Students!

This is just a reminder that for the next vocabulary class we will work on vocabulary describing people, so you will to learn vocabulary from Units 14, 62, and 78 from Oxford Word Skills, and Units 34 (Describing People) and 78 (Idioms Describing People) from English Vocabulary in Use Upper Intermediate.

In your blogs, please post two writing responses. First, you should imagine you are a hiring manager at a reputable firm. You had to find two appropriate candidates for a job out of six. Using the vocabulary from the Units listed above write an e-mail to the company’s director describing the dismissed 4 candidates and those 2 who you decided to hire. Explain your choice. Second, advertise the person you typically sit next to at your English Vocabulary classes, using relevant vocabulary from the topics character and description. Overall, your 2 posts should contain around 50 new words.

Good luck!

Dear Students A-211, A-212, and A-222,

For this week’s blog assignment, please write two blog posts based on the topic Travelling & Holidays.

First, you will write a description of a spectacular view incorporating around 25-30 vocabulary items from Oxford Advanced Skills Units 11 & 21 and English in Use Upper-Intermediate and Advanced Units 49-50. A manager of a traveling company has asked you to write a 250-word article advertising some unspoilt and far-flung place on the planet. Your article will be published on the company’s website and will serve to attract website visitors to exploring the location. To complete this task, please go to the National Geographic website (http://www.nationalgeographic.com), select a picture or a series of pictures of your choice and write an excellent description of the place to go. You should not forget to provide the name of the place you are writing about, where it is located, and how to get there. You may also want to include feedbacks of people who visited the place before. Write extensively about what you feel and see. Use the Present Continuous Tense for description of the place and Present Simple for general information Please, feel free to add any imaginary details to your description or your identity as an author. Add a picture or pictures that you chose to write about and place a link to the picture under it (for example, http://images.nationalgeographic.com/wpf/media-live/photos/000/722/custom/04-04-4-g-servalina-lb-panthera-small-_72275_610x343.jpg).

Second, your task is to review the suite of one of the U.S. suite hotels you stayed in while on holiday. Name the hotel and its location (City, State), say for how long you stayed there, and the kind of the room you stayed in (the hotel may be imaginary or real). Provide a 100-150 word review of the room based on the description of its interior. You may also wish to include information about the level of customer service. Your review should include lots of American English words (English in Use Upper-Intermediate and Advanced Unit 93 and any other U.S. English words you may want to include). Please, make your review of the suite either favourable or unfavourable. Attach a picture if possible.

Please, do not forget the for the next week’s class, you are required to learn the vocabulary and do the exercises from the following units:
