Dear Students A-211, A-212, and A-222,

For this week’s blog assignment, please write two blog posts based on the topic Travelling & Holidays.

First, you will write a description of a spectacular view incorporating around 25-30 vocabulary items from Oxford Advanced Skills Units 11 & 21 and English in Use Upper-Intermediate and Advanced Units 49-50. A manager of a traveling company has asked you to write a 250-word article advertising some unspoilt and far-flung place on the planet. Your article will be published on the company’s website and will serve to attract website visitors to exploring the location. To complete this task, please go to the National Geographic website (http://www.nationalgeographic.com), select a picture or a series of pictures of your choice and write an excellent description of the place to go. You should not forget to provide the name of the place you are writing about, where it is located, and how to get there. You may also want to include feedbacks of people who visited the place before. Write extensively about what you feel and see. Use the Present Continuous Tense for description of the place and Present Simple for general information Please, feel free to add any imaginary details to your description or your identity as an author. Add a picture or pictures that you chose to write about and place a link to the picture under it (for example, http://images.nationalgeographic.com/wpf/media-live/photos/000/722/custom/04-04-4-g-servalina-lb-panthera-small-_72275_610x343.jpg).

Second, your task is to review the suite of one of the U.S. suite hotels you stayed in while on holiday. Name the hotel and its location (City, State), say for how long you stayed there, and the kind of the room you stayed in (the hotel may be imaginary or real). Provide a 100-150 word review of the room based on the description of its interior. You may also wish to include information about the level of customer service. Your review should include lots of American English words (English in Use Upper-Intermediate and Advanced Unit 93 and any other U.S. English words you may want to include). Please, make your review of the suite either favourable or unfavourable. Attach a picture if possible.

Please, do not forget the for the next week’s class, you are required to learn the vocabulary and do the exercises from the following units:
  • Oxford Word Skills (Units 11, 21, 32)
  • English Vocabulary in Use Upper-Intermediate and Advanced (Units 49 “Travel”, 50 “Holidays”, and 93 “U.S. English”).

 Thank you and good luck!
